LONDON, UK: At a press conference held at the British Orthodontic Conference (BOC) 2018, the British Orthodontic Society (BOS) announced that consultant orthodontist Dr David Waring will be the new Chairman of the BOC. The first conference under his leadership will be held in Glasgow in 2019.
Currently a member of the BOS’s Education Committee, Waring qualified in dentistry at the University of Leeds’ School of Dentistry. After various general practice and hospital posts, including a spell with the Flying Doctor service in Australia, he entered into specialist orthodontic training in Liverpool. He was the Clinical Lead in Orthodontics at the University Dental Hospital of Manchester from 2008 to 2018, and he has lectured and has been published domestically and internationally. Today, Waring is a consultant and the Training Programme Director for Orthodontics within the Manchester region at the University Dental Hospital of Manchester, while he is also in specialist practice in south Manchester.
Commenting on his new role as Chairman of the BOC, Waring said, “Richard Jones has chaired the BOC superbly and I am very much looking forward to taking on the baton from him. We are already busy planning for a fantastic conference in Glasgow in 2019. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work with an amazing team of individuals on the conference committee who are all willing to give their time to benefit the orthodontic community.”
Dr Richard Jones, BOC 2018 Chairman, was effusive in his praise of Waring, saying, “I take great pleasure in seeing the role of Chairman passed on to someone as capable as David. His knowledge and enthusiasm for all things orthodontics will benefit the BOC greatly, and I have no doubt that next year's conference will be a success in his hands."
Waring is scheduled to hold a brief presentation titled “BOC 2019” in the Churchill Auditorium at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, 29 September, as part of BOC 2018. More information about this year’s conference can be found at www.bos.org.uk/News-and-Events/Events/BOC-London-2018.
