BIRMINGHAM, UK: The British Society for Advanced Dentistry (BSAD) has announced several well-known speakers for its upcoming annual conference, to be held in the Hotel du Vin in Birmingham on 27 and 28 September. Prof. Iain Chapple and Dr Tif Qureshi will be keynote speakers at the event, while Dr Louis Mackenzie will be providing a hands-on session for attendees.
Chapple, the Head of the University of Birmingham’s School of Dentistry, is one of the most well-regarded dental researchers in the UK, having just last year received the International Association for Dental Research’s Distinguished Scientist Award for Research in Periodontal Disease. His presentation at the conference will focus on the links between periodontal disease and systemic health.
Qureshi is founder and a clinical director of the IAS Academy and a past President of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. His speech will centre on the relevance of the Dahl concept in restorative orthodontic dentistry.
Mackenzie is a general dental practitioner in Birmingham and a clinical dental tutor at the University of Birmingham. His hands-on session will take place on the morning of 28 September and will highlight minimally invasive direct restorative techniques.
“We are delighted to have such a diverse range of expertise from colleagues with a wealth of experience in their respective fields,” BSAD President Dr Nigel Jones told the British Dental Journal. “We also hope to encourage new members of our profession who hold—or are training for—a diploma-level qualification or higher, and have a commitment to advanced dentistry, to join us.”
The BSAD was formed in 1983 as the British Society for General Dental Surgery and subsequently merged with the Implant Diploma (FGDP) Alumni group in 2015. The society provides an academic forum for general dental practitioners with postgraduate diplomas and facilitates opportunities for cross-disciplinary discussion, as well as further training and development of more recent graduates.
Further information about the conference can be found on the BSAD’s website.
