LONDON – Under the sponsorship of Henry Schein UK, the local affiliate of worldwide provider of health care products and services to dental professionals Henry Schein, the African and Caribbean Dental Association—UK (ACAD-UK) was launched at the end of last year. About 150 delegates and representatives from around the world attended the first annual charity gala dinner of the association in London.
ACAD-UK was formed in order to promote better oral health awareness among ethnic minority groups in the UK and African-Caribbean communities abroad and the need for peer review and networking among dental professionals of African and Caribbean descent, Henry Schein UK announced in a press release.
The association’s director, Dr Olurotimi Adesanya, pointed out that ACAD-UK would like to partner with statutory, professional and voluntary organisations and to encourage its members to make use of their cultural knowledge in promoting better health awareness.
The collaboration with ACAD-UK is part of Henry Schein’s global corporate social responsibility programme, Henry Schein Cares, which helps increase access to care for underserved populations. Simon Gambold, Managing Director at Henry Schein UK, said that the company will be working with the newly formed association in creating an educational programme for members of African and Caribbean ancestry and will help communicate oral health messages in minority communities.
