GILLINGHAM – On 25 November, executives of Henry Schein, one of the world’s largest providers of health-care products to office-based dental professionals, started work on the company’s new headquarters in Gillingham. The energy-efficient facility will be the main office and distribution centre serving the dental and medical customers in the UK in the future.
According to Henry Schein UK, more than £150,000 (€180,000) will be invested to build a new office space spanning over 2,000 m² on two floors and a warehouse facility spanning over 9,500 m² for storage and distribution of dental, animal-health and medical products.
“As part of Henry Schein’s dedication to environmental responsibility, we have ensured that every element of the planning and construction of our new energy-efficient facility has taken into account the needs of the surrounding environment,” said Simon Gambold, Henry Schein UK’s managing director.
Over the course of the project, the company will be planting mature trees to serve as an acoustic and visual barrier between the building and nearby homes. In addition, it will ensure protection and translocation of birds, lizards, mammals and other animals currently inhabiting the site under the supervision of a trained ecologist.
Construction of the new facility is expected to be completed during the second quarter of next year. Currently, the company employs 350 people. Once the facility has been opened, the number of employees at the site will increase to 650.
