CANCUN, Mexico/DUNDEE, UK: Prof. Mark Hector has been awarded a prestigious honorary membership of the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD) at the organisation’s recent 27th congress in Cancun. It is only the 20th time in the 50-year history of the IAPD that it has awarded honorary membership, the highest honour that can be bestowed on a member.
Hector is Dean of the School of Dentistry and Professor of Oral Health of Children at the University of Dundee, positions he has held since 2011. His history with the IAPD goes back to 1990, when he was first appointed to its executive board as secretary general. He held this position for the ensuing nine years, subsequently becoming editor of the International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry and then IAPD president from 2009 to 2011.
“I am delighted to have received this honour from the IAPD, which represents more than 15,000 dentists around the world,” said Hector.
The IAPD is a non-profit organisation that was founded in 1969 with the objective to contribute to the progress of paediatric dentistry around the world, to promote the oral health of children and to encourage research in this field. It currently has 69 national member societies.
