LONDON, UK: Wearers of the Invisalign clear aligner system in the UK are among the first to be able to try out a new app for mobile devices that is intended to support them in their treatment. According to the provider, Align Technologies, the app was designed to make it simpler for wearers to keep track of their orthodontic treatment by allowing them to capture consistently positioned camera shots of their face and compare the results as treatment advances.
Results of the tooth movement can be visualised through a time lapse functionality, for example, that shows the wearer how the treatment has progressed over the weeks.
Images and videos acquired with the app can be shared with friends and family via social media platforms.
Other features allow wearers to follow their individual treatment plan better through advice and reminders to change their aligners every two weeks or of their next dental appointment.
The free app, called “My Invisalign Smile”, has been made available for iPhone users and a version for Android devices is to follow in the next few weeks.
Align Technology reports that over three million patients worldwide have been treated with Invisalign. Now offering clinicians a solution for first premolar extractions, the company introduced the latest generation of its clear aligner system last year at the International Orthodontic Congress in London.
