CRAWLEY, UK: From 2 to 6 September, a team composed of staff members from the UK division of dental implant manufacturer Straumann and customers will be taking part in a charity bike ride. They have announced that they will be completing a 500-mile ride in five days, passing through five European countries. Ultimately, the team aims to raise more than £24,000 (€30,000) for two dental charity organisations.
The cyclists will start their tour in Milan and end at the Straumann headquarters in Basel in Switzerland, crossing Austria, Liechtenstein and Germany. The course will include one of the most iconic routes through the Stelvio Pass, a challenging mountain pass in northern Italy at 2,757 m above sea level.
Money raised through the initiative will be donated to the Cleft Lip & Palate Association (CLAPA), a UK-wide voluntary organisation that helps people with, and affected by, cleft lip and palate, and Bridge2Aid, a charity that provides dental care, education and training to people in Tanzania.
The funds raised in the 2013 bike ride enabled CLAPA to continue to provide specialised feeding packs, develop support for children and adolescents, and run specialised services for parents and health professionals to help them offer the best possible care for children and babies affected by cleft lip and palate, stated Louise Wheeler, CLAPA’s Community Fundraising Manager.
Donations for the project can be made online on the Virgin Money Giving fundraising and donation platform.
