BASEL, Switzerland/CRAWLEY, UK: Over the next six days, representatives of Straumann UK, the UK subsidiary of global dental implant manufacturer Straumann, will be cycling 600 miles. In order to raise money for a charitable project, they will be riding their bikes from the company’s headquarters in Basel in Switzerland to their office in the UK.

Today, 30 participants, including a number of Straumann staff and a group of customers, started the Straumann Charity Bike Ride 2013 at the headquarters in Basel. Next Tuesday, the cyclists will finish at the head office of Straumann UK in Crawley.

According to the company, the route will be challenging, as it involves at least one of the stages of the Tour de France.

The funds are being raised through Virgin Money Giving, an online non-profit fundraising and donation platform. The goal is to raise a minimum of £1,000 (€1,190) in sponsorship money for each person taking part. Overall, the company aims to raise more than £30,000 for the Cleft Lip and Palate Association and Bridge2Aid, a charity that provides dental care, education and training to African communities.
