LONDON, UK: In addition to having its Invisalign G6 solution on display at the International Orthodontic Congress (IOC) here in London, Align Technology invited participants to a special satellite symposium on the first day of the show. Over 1,000 participants used the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the development process and clinical performance of the new appliance.
As one of the guest speakers, Align R&D director John Morton allowed the packed auditorium to discover the science and the biomechanical principles that are at play when using the Invisalign appliance to control tooth movement. According to him, Invisalign G6 was engineered to improve treatment outcomes for patients with severe crowding or bimaxillary protrusion. The innovative new technology maintains vertical control and root parallelism for improved predictability in first premolar extraction treatments with maximum anchorage, creating new possibilities for Invisalign customers and their patients, he said.
His speech was complemented by a presentation by French orthodontist Dr David Couchat, who discussed a number of complex cases, including those involving first premolar extraction, as well as open and deep bite cases, that can now be treated using Invisalign clear aligners. Performing treatment with Invisalign since 2001, he has been involved in many pilot studies with Align’s R&D department.
“There is probably no single orthodontic problem nowadays that you cannot treat with Invisalign,” Couchat told Dental Tribune Online after the symposium. “In the past we were obliged to use auxiliaries, but we can give them all up now. For me, there are no more limits with the technology anymore.”
Align Technology introduced the G6 to the public for the first time last November at its Invisalign Ortho Summit in San Jose in the US. The new solution was released in Europe and Asia in April of this year. Since then it has been available to orthodontist and dentists all over the world. In addition to its improved appliance, Align technology is also offering the new ClinCheck Pro with 3D Controls for more precise control over the final tooth position. With the new software, adjustments can be made directly on the 3-D model, and visualised in real time.
