A familiar face at every BDIA Dental Showcase is GC UK. On Thursday, Dental Tribune sat down with Managing Director Chris Brown to discuss what is in store from the company for this year’s edition in London.

Dental Tribune: Mr Brown, you seem to have a very interesting booth design this year.
Chris Brown: The whole image of the stand resembles the image of our international training centre in Belgium. It is intended to demonstrate that education has always been and is very important to us. Dentists who use our products need to know that they are of high quality, have a great deal of research behind them and have been tried and tested in every possible clinical application you can think of. This we achieve through our campus in Belgium.

A significant recent development from an educational support side is that we have entered into a partnership with King’s College London for supporting its Advanced Minimum Intervention Dentistry programme. This will be discussed later today by the university’s Prof. Avijit Banerjee, who is going to present the concept during the mini-lecture programme.

Among other products, you are introducing the new Aadva Lab scanner here in London. Is this the focal point of your presentation?
Obviously, this is a new pathway forward for us. It is not the only road but a very significant one. If you ask patients whether they would like to have a metal tray placed in their mouth or have a photograph taken, not many will opt for the former. This is the way the business is going and we want to be a forerunner for that.

On the other side, we have a fantastic history and future prospects in the material segment. As you may know, our company in the UK was essentially established on glass ionomers and this is what we do best. We see BDIA Dental Showcase as the premier show of the year for exhibiting these products.

In your opinion, what are the product highlights for visitors at the GC booth?
We have just released MI Varnish, a varnish for the treatment of hypersensitive teeth that contains calcium phosphate. We also have our new ceramic primer on display, which has not actually been released yet. Another new product that is generating interest is G-ænial Universal Flo, which is the first injectable composite that can be used as a restorative.

What are your overall expectations for this year’s show?
Registrations seem to be down a bit, but that does not matter as long as all of the decision-makers are here. It is definitely the most important show of the year. I can confirm that we have already booked our booth for Birmingham next year.

Thank you very much for the interview.
