Dental equipment manufacturer A-dec is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Originally a US company, it is now also a major market participant in the UK. Dental Tribune ONLINE had the opportunity to speak with Marketing Manager Luke Broadhurst about this year’s display and his initial impressions of the show.

Dental Tribune ONLINE: Mr Broadhurst, have you been satisfied with the show so far?
Luke Broadhurst: Thursday is usually a little bit quieter. On Friday and Saturday, however, many more dentists will be coming. This is fantastic and we welcome them to our stand.

The UK economy is on an upswing. Would you say that this show is a mirror for that?
Overall, we have seen some positive signs with regard to the UK economy. I am not sure if that has come through all the way down to dentistry, but certainly we have seen that dentists are beginning to spend.

It has been a rather dry period for everybody in the industry. I do not want to be too confident, but I think that there is some movement. By walking around the hall, one can get a sense of that. We will be able to see that finally on Monday. What I can say is that we have been looking forward to the three days of BDIA Dental Showcase.

A-dec is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. How has this been reflected in your stand at the show?
The display here is fantastic. We decided to go for a clinical design this year and with it one can actually see all the differences between and the overall engineering that goes into each product. The reason for this is to give dentists a sense of spatial design, so that they are actually able to see and understand what their clinic would look like with one of our products in it.

A unit is a significant investment and we really want them to make the right decision. We have tried to combine a great deal in the stand. We have our whole range of products here as well.

What in general makes your units stand out from the rest?
All of our chairs have been designed with ergonomics in mind. Particularly with the 400 and 500 units, dentists can get really close to the patient. The 300 delivery pad is a remarkable unit, particularly for the UK, because treatment rooms here are often very small. Female dentists love it because it is light and can be pushed out of the way easily.

We have also given attention to visual appeal with pink and black. Of course, our products are available in many other colours too. We are just trying to make a difference.

Thank you very much for the interview.
