LONDON, UK/MELVILLE, N.Y., USA: King’s College London has awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the College to Stanley M. Bergman, chairman of the board and CEO of Henry Schein, global provider of dental products. The Honorary Fellowship, which recognises exceptional distinction in the public and professional life of the awardee, was recently awarded to Bergman at a graduation ceremony of the King’s College London Dental Institute.

“Mr Bergman has been a staunch promoter of innovation in education in King’s Dental Institute, and he continues to show great commitment to such activities,” said Sir Rick Trainor, principal of King’s. “As an individual who is an exemplar in his service to society in general and to dental public health in particular, Stanley Bergman is a most worthy candidate for the award of the Honorary Fellowship of King’s College London.”

Henry Schein’s global corporate social responsibility programme, Henry Schein Cares, “helps health happen” by expanding access to health care for underserved and at-risk populations. Bergman and his wife, Marion, are active supporters of organisations fostering the arts, higher education, cultural diversity, and grassroots health-care and sustainable entrepreneurial economic development initiatives in the US, Africa and other developing regions of the world.

Bergman serves on a number of boards in related areas, including the University of Pennsylvania, New York University, the University of the Witwatersrand, Tel Aviv University, the Metropolitan Opera, the Business Council for International Understanding, the American Dental Association (where he was awarded honorary membership) and the Forsyth Institute, the premiere oral health research institution in the US.

Henry Schein is a founding sponsor of the acclaimed Senior Dental Leadership Programme, now run jointly on an annual basis with King’s College London and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, designed to equip senior oral health leaders with the strategic leadership and management skills they need to promote a cavity-free world.

“It is humbling and a true honour to receive King’s College London’s Honorary Fellowship,” said Bergman. “I accept this award on behalf of our nearly 16,000 Team Schein members around the world, who share a deep commitment to giving back to society and to supporting innovation and excellence in educating tomorrow’s health professionals.”
