LONDON, UK: Three dental professionals have made it on to the Queen’s New Year Honours list this year. Recognised for their services to the profession last week were Chief Dental Officer for Scotland Margie Taylor, appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire, West Midlands and special care dentist Jane Davies-Slowik from Wolverhampton as well as dental public health consultant Eric Rooney.

Both were appointed Members of the Order of the British Empire.

In addition to his role at Public Health England North West, Rooney has served as Deputy Chief Dental Officer for NHS England since November last year.

In the same category, Davies-Slowik was awarded for her contribution to improving the oral health of disadvantaged people. She is currently Associate Postgraduate Dental Dean at Health Education West Midlands in Birmingham.

Almost 1,200 people have been recognised in this year’s Honours list, including a number of prominent entries, such as actors Barbara Windsor, Idris Elba and James Nesbitt, as well as Blur front man Damon Albarn.
