LONDON, UK: The annual renewal deadline for dental care professionals (DCPs) is just over a week away, prompting the General Dental Council (GDC) to urge DCPs who wish to stay on the register for the following 12-month period to take action by no later than 31 July.
To complete the annual renewal, DCPs need to pay an annual retention fee and declare that they have, or will have, the appropriate indemnity in place. In addition, they must make their annual continuing professional development (CPD) statement or an end-of-cycle statement if the individual is at the end of his or her five-year-cycle. This statement can be made until 28 August, and the GDC says there remain more than 28,000 DCPs who are yet to do so.
“This is the first annual renewal since the introduction of enhanced CPD, so we want to be sure that everyone knows they need to make an annual statement, even if no CPD has been completed over the year, in which case, a statement of ‘zero hours’ needs to be made,” said Gurvinder Soomal, Executive Director of Registration and Corporate Resources at GDC.
“This is new territory for everyone, as are the new rules relating to grace period applications, so DCPs should not leave it too late and get in touch if they have any questions.”
Further guidance and information about enhanced CPD can be found on the GDC’s website.
