LEIPZIG, Germany: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders are an increasing problem in the dental profession. A new free webinar, to be presented by the Dental Tribune Study Club on 27 March, will focus on causes and effects of these and ways to reduce discomfort through exercise. Participants will be introduced to improved posture and positioning and choosing ergonomic dental equipment.

The days of quick tooth extractions have been replaced with tooth preservation and aesthetic approaches. With greater patient expectations and the increased intricacy of these procedures, treatment sessions have become longer. Musculoskeletal disorders may transpire from the poor posture maintained for extended periods as a result of limited access to the oral cavity, improper leg positioning, incorrect positioning of the patient, twisting or bending, and repetitive movement.

During the online presentation, participants will learn how to recognise the severity, symptoms and causes of musculoskeletal disorders and the reasons good posture is important to prevent these disorders. They will furthermore receive tips to help improve workplace posture and discover how ergonomically designed dental equipment can reduce the prevalence of musculoskeletal pain.

The webinar, titled “It’s no longer a pain in the neck … or back!”, is free of charge after easy registration on the website and will be broadcast online on Monday, 27 March, from 7 p.m. BST. Participants will be able to ask questions via a chat window and have the opportunity to earn a continuing education credit by completing a multiple-choice questionnaire on the topic discussed.
