LONDON, UK: For millions of Brits, 31 January is the last day to submit their tax returns. According to new data collected by consumer watchdog Which?, almost half would rather see the dentist than go through the annual self-assessment process.
In the poll, which asked whether respondents would prefer to do their taxes or something else, over 40 per cent said that they would choose to have their teeth checked. Only household tasks like cleaning the bathroom or ironing were more popular choices in the survey. However, respondents preferred doing their taxes to things like cleaning the oven or visiting their in-laws.
An estimated ten million people submit their self-assessment forms to HM Revenue and Customs in hard copy or online every year, with less than 10 per cent missing the deadlines at the end of October and January. While one in five find the process rather tedious, according to Which?, the overall majority reported finding it quite easy.
