LIVERPOOL, UK: Drag racing, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and flying a microlight halfway around the world—Miles Hilton-Barber has done it all. What makes the 64-year-old special is that he has been blind for over 30 years. As a motivational speaker, the British adventurer nowadays gives inspirational speeches around the world for charity. In a special appearance, he opened the annual conference of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in Liverpool today.
Little motivation was needed, however, for dentists to flock to ACC Liverpool on the banks of the River Mersey, as the meeting had already received significant interest from dental professionals around the country. According to British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry President and 2012 UK dentist of the year Dr Zaki Kanaan, who addressed hundreds of attendees this morning, all hands-on workshops, which were held on the first day of the conference for the first time, were sold out this year. As a consequence, he said his association is considering extending this offer for future meetings.
This year, up to 300 dentists are expected to attend the three-day event, which is being held for the 11th time. Attendees have the opportunity to gain up to 21 hours of continuing professional development through the meeting, which will see presentations by a number of internationally and nationally acclaimed clinical experts.
Sessions continue today with presentations on non-preparation direct bonding and what it takes to be a smile designer. In addition, workshops on the topics of digital photography and online marketing are aimed at helping dentists achieve a more effective practice workflow.
Over 35 corporate partners are sponsoring the event.
