LONDON, England: The Ivoclar Summer School, an international education initiative for dental students, was held in the UK for the first time this summer. From 21 to 25 July, King’s College London welcomed participants from more than 25 countries to its London Dental Education Centre.

Now in its fourth year, the Ivoclar Summer School is aimed at dental students who have completed their preclinical training and are beginning their clinical studies. The week-long programme combines hands-on courses, interdisciplinary workshops, case studies and lectures from international experts, alongside opportunities for cultural exchange and global networking.

“Travel. Learn. Connect.” is the theme of the Ivoclar Summer School.

The London edition was made possible through an agreement signed in December 2024 between King’s College London and Ivoclar. King’s contributed its advanced training facilities and academic expertise, while Ivoclar provided course materials and logistical support.

“We are very pleased to have welcomed the Ivoclar Summer School to King’s,” said Prof. Michael Escudier, executive dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences. “This initiative offers our students a unique opportunity to engage with peers from across the globe, gain hands-on experience, and broaden their understanding of dentistry beyond the classroom. It’s a valuable complement to our curriculum and a promising start to what we hope will be a long-term partnership,” he concluded.

Ivoclar CEO Markus Heinz described the programme as an important investment in the next generation of dentists. “We see it as our responsibility to equip young talents early on with additional knowledge that complements the traditional curriculum. At the same time, we want to give them access to a global exchange of experience through our international network,” he said. “Bringing together our practice-oriented focus with the academic excellence of King’s College London creates real value for both parties,” Heinz added.

In 2025, the Ivoclar Summer School was held in nine locations worldwide, including Germany, India, China, Austria, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain and Liechtenstein, in addition to the UK. Across all sites, the initiative continues to highlight the importance of cross-border collaboration in dental education.

The next edition of the Ivoclar Summer School is scheduled for 2026, with applications opening in early March. Registration will be available via the Ivoclar website, and dental students can already sign up for the waitlist. The destinations will be announced at the beginning of 2026.
