COLOGNE, Germany: Kemdent, a registered trademark of Associated Dental Products and manufacturer of modelling waxes, is presenting its new Anutex Eco and Tenatex Eco range at the IDS in Cologne. According to the company, they are the world’s first eco-friendly ranges of modelling waxes.

In collaboration with the Manufacturing Advisory Service, an organization providing manufacturing business support and the Improve Your Resource Efficiency Service, a free advisory service that helps companies improve their financial and environmental performance, UK-based Kemdent has developed a more environmentally friendly way of manufacturing modelling waxes that consumes 30 per cent less energy than traditional production processes. “We made the investment last year and started the production in autumn,” Graham Mayoh, managing director at Kemdent, told Dental Tribune ONLINE. “We are very pleased with the result.”

In particular, Kemdent installed new modelling way processing equipment, which incorporates a unique single-step water-cooled process that reduces energy consumption and improves heat conductivity. In addition, the manufacturer installed a heat pump which recovers lost heat from working environment. The process of pouring the wax to having a fully-labelled and packaged 2.5 kg box only takes 15 minutes.

Not only does the company save production costs but the customers also benefit from this new development. To tie in with the 30 per cent energy saving, Kemdent currently offers a 30 per cent discount on the new ranges.

“We have had very good responses not only from technicians from Europe but also from Asia or Africa. Climate change is everybody’s issue,” Mayoh said. “We plan to install an additional production line in 2014.”

Among the waxes, the company introduces a wide range of other new products at this year’s IDS, such as the PracticeSafe Impression Soak Disinfectant, used by technicians for the disinfection of dental impression materials and several filling materials, which enable dentists to restore without taking away too much of the tooth.

Kemdent is a family-run company that has been manufacturing consumable materials for 90 years. Kemdent, which has its own R&D team, delivers its products to customers all around the world. According to Mayoh, despite the recession, the company has increased its sales by 15 to 20 per cent since 2008.
