DUBLIN, Ireland: A breach of contract claim between model and presenter Vogue Williams and a Dublin dental clinic was settled in court last week. The legal dispute arose after the clinic had sought full payment for Williams’ dental treatment, although she had been granted a discount on the price of her treatment in exchange for publicity work, the model claimed.
As reported by the Irish Times, Williams had negotiated a treatment agreement with Seapoint Clinic that included the replacement of a temporary crown, the fitting of braces and veneers, as well as cosmetic treatment, for a sum just short of €7,000. In exchange, the model consented to an interview with an Irish newspaper or magazine and a video testimonial promoting the clinic’s website and professional services.
According to Williams, a breach of contract arose when the clinic sought full payment for the treatment although she had provided the clinic with the agreed publicity between January and June of 2012. She further claimed she had been caused upset and worry at a time when she was preparing for her wedding, causing her to rescind any agreement she had with the clinic in August 2012, one month before her marriage to former Westlife singer Brian McFadden.
After the disagreement, Williams brought a €38,000 damages claim for alleged breach of contract in the Circuit Civil Court.
Seapoint Clinic, in turn, alleged that Williams had failed to attend and cancelled a number of appointments, causing the clinic expense and costs. The clinic further alleged that it was Williams who owed the clinic more than €5,000 for her treatment, and it therefore delivered a full defence and counterclaim to the proceedings.
As Williams’ barrister David Boughton told the Irish Times, the claim has now been settled in court. Barrister Shane English, for Seapoint Clinic, said the defendant was consenting to the order.
No details of the settlement were revealed.
