BIRMINGHAM, England: The Digital Dentistry Theatre will be a central feature of the British Dental Conference & Dentistry Show (BDCDS), which is taking place alongside the Dental Technology Showcase on 16 and 17 May at the NEC, Birmingham. Supported by the International Digital Dental Academy (IDDA), the programme will highlight the role of digital innovation in modern dentistry.
For the first time, the theatre will feature an immersive 360° stage with a central screen, designed to offer clear visibility of live demonstrations from all angles. The set-up aims to present practical workflows in real time for dental technicians, laboratory owners and clinicians interested in digital processes, covering a wide range of topics, including CAD/CAM, 3D printing, intra-oral scanning and implant planning.
The two-day programme includes live demonstrations and interactive sessions on a variety of technology topics, including artificial intelligence in diagnostics and integrated digital workflows. Highlights include the following:
Sam Hesketh, founder and lead dental technician at SJH Prosthetics, will give a presentation on whether digital dentures can meet the aesthetic expectations of private patients.
Dr Chris Lefkaditis, vice president of the IDDA, and Dr Adam Nulty, president and course director at the IDDA, will discuss simplified implant planning and printing using the IDDA Guide.
Dr Martina Hodgson, principal dentist at the Dental Architect and the Dental Studio, will present on effective team communication.
Dr Quintus van Tonder, clinical director at Zandielle Clinic, and Dr Nulty will introduce the IDDA CAD and Cloud Link for streamlined CAD
Miroslav Brandejs of IDDA Lab will provide an interactive presentation on MiYO staining and glazing of monolithic restorations fabricated from Prometa Kronos blocks.
Dr Nulty will present a comparison of the Scan Ladder system and intra-oral photogrammetry for laboratory accuracy.
Leanne Brown, senior show manager, told Dental Tribune International (DTI): “The Digital Dentistry Theatre is designed to equip professionals with tools to adopt digital solutions in daily practice. With a strong speaker line-up and a broad range of topics, it is expected to be a major area of interest.”

Dr Nulty commented: “The theatre has become a platform for sharing advances in digital implantology and prosthetics. This year’s programme will continue to offer hands-on insight into digital workflows—from planning to final delivery.”
He added: “I’ll be presenting on topics including the Scan Ladder system, integration with the Medit SmartX workflow and the Medit i900 scanner, which supports real-time centralised matching and simplified prosthetic verification. We will also introduce the IDDA Scanner, a new entry-level solution designed to help clinicians adopt digital workflows without compromising accuracy or openness.”
Dr Nulty said that the theatre is intended to provide practical, applicable knowledge for dental professionals at any stage of their digital journey. “Whether you’re starting out or refining complex protocols, the sessions are designed to support everyday clinical use,” he told DTI.
