LONDON – At the beginning of June, a group of eight A-dec representatives took the Nightrider challenge in London to raise funds for Bridge2Aid, a long-standing partner charity of the company that provides dental care, education and training to African communities. The team completed the 100 km tour through the city and raised over £1,300 (€1,600).

Among the A-dec cycling team members were Karl O’Higgins, General Manager at A-dec Dental UK, and Charlotte Cligg, Sales and Marketing Coordinator for EMEA at A-dec Dental UK.

The participants started the tour ten minutes after midnight on 8 June, passing London’s major sites, including Tower Bridge, Piccadilly Circus, the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square and the Royal Albert Hall. “Against mental and physical fatigue, through gritted teeth and sheer determination, we finally cycled into Alexandra Palace at times between 7.30 a.m. and 9.30 a.m.,” O’Higgins said.

Their initial target of £1,000 was exceeded by donations of £1,365. The funds raised will be used entirely for Bridge2Aid’s programmes in Tanzania. As the cost of providing a person in East Africa with access to emergency dental care is only 50p, A-dec’s donation will help deliver dental care to 2,730 people, the organisation stated.

The funds were raised through Virgin Money Giving, an online non-profit fundraising and donation platform. The site is still open for contributions, the company said.

Since 2002, Bridge2Aid has trained more than 160 local health workers in Tanzania. Today, they train over 50 health workers each year, providing an estimated two million people with access to emergency dental care.
